The European Union has imposed five-year tariffs on aluminum foil imported from China, Brazil and Armenia following charges that suppliers from these countries sold the products into the EU at below cost price.
The dumping duties for Chinese companies of up to 30 per cent are a punishment for exporters selling the product at below cost. The tariffs applied to Brazilian products are 17.6 per cent and 13.4 per cent for Armenian suppliers.
China, Brazil and Armenia increased their combined share to 49 per cent of the EU aluminium foil market between June 2007 and June 2008, up from 14 per cent in 2005. China's share rose to 30.7 per cent.
