2009-05-20 By www.worldscrap.com

During 18th-19th May, 2009 World Scrap Industry (spring) Economics & Trade Fair, which was sponsored by World Scrap had successfully held in Ningbo NanYuan Hotel. Continuing the "SOHO" style, which combined meeting, trading and leisure together, the meeting also included "Scrap Forum" and "Welcome Banquet". The harmonious trading atmosphere and relaxing communication full filled the trade show, which said high praise by the coming customers.

Though Most of scrap business man suffered much in the economic crisis, many of them came to the trade show to find new business opportunities and some registered the booths temporarily. The traders presented confidently to the later market and remained waiting for the "new spring".

Lin Meibiao, vice general manager of Xinnuo Plastic and specialist of China Plastic Association Resource Recycling Committee: It would be the golden time to enter scrap plastic industry in autumn of 2010!

"During the economic crisis in 2008, the plastic prices sharply dropped down by the slipping oil price and the scrap traders undersold the plastics, which made the prices even lower. As I predicted before, the domestic demand would grew faster during March to June this year, and the plastic prices would went up in a small volume, while in the prices would then went down in the second half year. According to the market situation and government policy movement, I insisted my previous prediction. As an element of prices rising time may come during April to May, please control risk while doing the scrap business."

He also suggested that limit production to market ability, keep the lower stockpile level and lower the risks. World economic not yet seems the bottom, many countries adopted loose policies and lower interest rate to cope with the global economic crisis, and so did the occident that had started money press. This year not yet the commodity price bottom, and this autumn would be an element of price lower point while this winter may be the bottom of China's economic. According to above situation, it would be the golden time to enter scrap plastic industry in autumn of 2010.

Du Linqiang, Ningbo Dafa Chemical Fibre: to seek "Chance"in "Crisis"

"Our company mainly produces recycled poly flock. We are now in short supply and the production has restored on the whole. Influenced by the economic crisis, we have lost millions last year. No matter fresh material, wastes or other materials, the price dropped unprecedentedly to a level which could be a 'miracle'. Because almost 90% companies suffered a loss, including us. For sure, the present price is not that good, but 'crisis'  is always accompanied by 'chance'. We lost a chance at the end of last year, or we could have earned even more. I only want to tell you that no matter what economic environment we are confronted with, we should arrange our resource reasonably, reduce the loss to the minimum. We should learn to seek 'chance' in 'crisis', stock in timely and stick to honesty in the process of trading since it's the key to reinforce a company.

Ren Yunxuan, general manager of Yuanzhan International (Hongkong): scrap price bubbles still exist and price will fall.

"At present, goods from Hong Kong decreased by more than 30% with relatively high prices which I considered were unreasonable. Customs clearance in Guangdong was extremely hard now. Sanshan port especially overstocked a lot, which mainly influenced by the H1N1 flu. The customs clearance of normal containers has few problems, while somewhat dirty goods get big problems. Now the import of Japan mixed metal scrap has reduced obviously due to the bleak economy. Plastic price bubbles remain exist and price would fall in a short term. As for the demand, there would be little demand for domestic scrap and the demand for metal scrap hasn't truly recovered yet. The market, especial the steel scrap market is quite turbulent, whose import volume underwent the 'blowout' phenomenon. All those are abnormal before the economy truly recovers. Everyone should be cautious while trading."

Fan Guanfu, general manager of Ningbo Hexiang Export & Import: Do not sign an unequal contract.

"As China lacks of resource, many scrap materials imported, and the goods sold well which led some unequal contracts. Once, I ordered 3,000tons copper cathode, the seller asked for 20% advance deposit that would never be back once I defaulted. However, if they defaulted, the fine was 2%, which was an unequal contract. I refused to do so, because the trust was set up by both side of the traders. Please trade curiously, it is not only your business, but also the whole Chinese scrap traders. "

Chen Xuyin, general manager of IDI srl: pay attention to avoid the trade risks.

IDI srl, one of the biggest Europe scrap metal suppliers, Manager Chen said: "Recently, I visited some scrap traders in Holland, France, Italy and Spain. All of the traders seemed more curious and so did their clauses. The advance deposit had been rising up to 50% that was 20% before, which we couldn't accept. Some suppliers sold the goods to two buyers, which caused some trade dispute. In EU, most cheaters in Belgian, next is Holland, and some not good traders appeared in Germany. We should pay attention to these things. I remembered once I bought white ABS regrinds from IBM Italy, I just checked up some regrinds, when the goods shipped to China, I found that most regrinds weren't which we need. This company cheated 8 customers in Italy. Finally, we reported the situation to the CCIC, as a result their AQSIQ license was canceled. I just want to tell you, to be more careful and avoid the trade risks."
